More than one thousand two hundred residents of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, were forced to leave their homes due to devastating flooding that engulfed the city. The cause of the disaster was the overflow of the Ciliwung River, caused by heavy rainfall, “MIR 24” reports with reference to the Jakarta Globe.
As a result of the rampant elements, the first floors of hundreds of houses were completely flooded, and the water level in some areas reached one and a half meters. The catastrophic consequences of the flood affected several city areas, where the water level fluctuated from fifty centimeters to one and a half meters.
According to the regional disaster management agency, rescue services are currently actively working on the ground, helping people evacuate and move to safe areas. Evacuated residents are being placed in temporary shelters, where they are provided with hot meals, drinking water and basic necessities.
