Turkmenistan presents five-year plan to combat human trafficking

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted an official presentation of the National Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Persons for 2025-2029. The document was approved by the Resolution of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in January 2025.

According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the event was attended by members of the Interdepartmental Commission on Combating Trafficking in Persons, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the country.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov noted the importance of the new plan, which was developed by the Interdepartmental Commission in close cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The Chairman of the Interdepartmental Commission, Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan Begmurat Muhamedov emphasized that the National Plan includes five sections defining specific measures, deadlines for their implementation, performance indicators and responsible government agencies.

According to the participants of the meeting, the adoption of this document is aimed at strengthening the state system for protecting human rights and freedoms, fulfilling Turkmenistan’s international obligations, expanding humanitarian cooperation with international organizations and strengthening work to prevent threats at the national level.

During the presentation, the participants discussed in detail the strategic directions outlined in the document and exchanged views on their practical implementation.
