An unusual social experiment is starting in Vienna. 40 families have agreed to give up using their personal cars for three months. During this period, they will actively use alternative means of transportation: public transport, bicycles and car sharing, euro-pulse.ru reports.

The participants will receive financial compensation in the amount of 500 euros per month to cover transportation costs. The progress of the experiment will be closely monitored by scientists from the University of Vienna, who have developed a special application for collecting data. Through it and regular surveys, the researchers will analyze how the transport habits of city residents are changing and what financial costs accompany these changes.

The main objective of the study is to assess the comfort of urban life without a personal car and to identify the advantages and disadvantages of alternative modes of transport. The results will help to develop new approaches to the organization of urban mobility, making it more environmentally friendly and convenient.

The Initiative has serious environmental significance, given that cars are the least environmentally friendly mode of transport among all those running on fossil fuels. According to euro-pulse.ru, they generate 72% of all greenhouse emissions associated with transport in Europe. EU countries are actively implementing various programs to reduce the use of personal vehicles. For example, in the Czech Republic, a national challenge is held annually, within the framework of which citizens travel to work or school by bicycle for a month.
