As part of the visit of the Turkmen delegation to the United States, a meeting was held at the State Department, where strategic partnership in the field of education was discussed, the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan reports.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking representatives of the American educational and diplomatic departments, including employees of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, the Office of Global Education Programs and the US Department of Education. The Turkmen side was represented by the Deputy Minister of Education, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United States, as well as vice-rectors of the country’s leading universities.
The main topic of discussion was the development of educational cooperation between the two countries. The participants noted the progress achieved since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding in April 2023. A roadmap for the development of education was developed, taking into account the priorities of the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan.
The American side was informed about the reforms in the education system of Turkmenistan under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The successful experiencee of participation of Turkmen students and teachers in 16 educational programs implemented by the American Councils for International Education was noted.
The US representatives proposed expanding cooperation through the Fulbright, Study in USA, IVLP programs and other initiatives. The issues of methodology of academic assessments, accreditation, examinations, teacher certification and the integration of science with education and production were discussed.
Particular attention was paid to the development of new formats of academic exchanges and the possibility of creating branches of American universities in Turkmenistan. This step is seen as an important contribution to the development of the Turkmen higher education system and the training of personnel for innovative sectors of the economy.
The parties emphasized the importance of sustainable and long-term cooperation in the field of education and discussed specific steps to deepen cooperation.
