Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with the newly appointed EU Special Representative for Central Asia Eduards Stiprais, during which the parties discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the diplomats emphasized the importance of the systematic work of joint mechanisms, including the Turkmenistan-EU Joint Committee and the Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation in strategic areas. In particular, the parties discussed cooperation in energy, transport, environmental protection, including initiatives to reduce methane emissions and develop renewable energy sources.
Significant emphasis was placed on the humanitarian direction of the partnership. The diplomats agreed to continue educational projects and programs aimed at strengthening ties between scientific and educational institutions of the two sides.
During the meeting, prospects for trade and economic cooperation, including interaction with EU financial institutions, were also discussed, and joint activities for the current year were planned.
