The President of Turkmenistan pardoned 736 people, 13 new residential buildings opened in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan begins preparations for the Olympics in Los Angeles and other news

1. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held an extended meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. The event discussed key tasks of the country's socio-economic development, reviewed draft documents and made important decisions. The meeting was attended by members of the State Security Council, as well as heads of regions and the capital.

2. One of the significant decisions was the signing of a decree by the President on pardoning 736 convicted citizens in honor of the upcoming Independence Day of Turkmenistan. Serdar Berdimuhamedov instructed the Secretary of the State Security Council, together with the heads of law enforcement agencies, to carry out all necessary measures for the speedy release of the pardoned persons and their return home to their families. Also, the hyakims of the velayats, etraps and cities were instructed to provide the pardoned with work.

3. During the meeting, the Decree "On Acceptance into Citizenship of Turkmenistan" was signed, according to which 1146 people permanently residing in the country and not having citizenship received Turkmen citizenship. The new citizens are representatives of 29 nationalities.

4. In addition, the President of Turkmenistan signed a Resolution granting permission to reside in the country to a group of foreign citizens. According to the information, applications for residence permits in Turkmenistan were registered from 134 people representing 6 foreign countries and 15 nationalities. In the coming days, a ceremony of presenting passports and relevant documents is planned to be held in the building of the State Migration Service.

5. On the eve of the 33rd anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence, a grand opening of 13 new nine-story residential buildings and a park took place in the “Parahat-7” residential complex in Ashgabat. The new 9-story buildings, designed for 54 and 36 apartments, were built using advanced technologies and equipped with everything necessary for comfortable living. The adjacent territory is landscaped, and the appropriate infrastructure has been created. A cozy park with green areas has been laid out for residents to relax.

6. The President of Turkmenistan signed an order to establish a State Organizing Committee to hold an international forum dedicated to the 300th anniversary of Magtymguly Fragi. The event is scheduled for October this year in Ashgabat.

7. In November 2024, Ashgabat will host a concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the legendary French-Armenian chansonnier Charles Aznavour. The event will be held at the Mukam Palace. The State Symphony Orchestra of Turkmenistan will perform works by the world-famous artist, whose work has become a symbol of the cultural bridge between the East and the West. The concert program will include Aznavour's most famous compositions in symphonic arrangement. In addition, in October 2024, Turkmenistan will host the Days of Culture of the Republic of Armenia, which will include various events dedicated to Armenian culture and history.

8. Cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub have reached a new milestone in the history of space flights. 10. Turkmenistan is starting active preparation of national teams for the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Los Angeles in 2028. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Bayramgul Orazdurdyeva proposed to create an Organizing Committee and develop a comprehensive training program for athletes. The plan includes organizing training sessions and camps at the Olympic Village in Ashgabat and the sports complex in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone. At the recent 2024 Olympics in Paris, Turkmenistan was represented by 6 athletes in various disciplines. A Turkmen athlete also competed in para-powerlifting at the Paralympic Games. Particularly noteworthy is the historic achievement of Turkmenistan at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where Polina Guryeva, under the guidance of the head coach of the national team Artur Emiryan, won the first and so far only Olympic medal in the history of independent Turkmenistan - silver in weightlifting in the weight category up to 59 kilograms. Her result in the combined event was a record 217 kilograms.

11. The International Football Federation has updated the ranking of national teams. Turkmenistan has moved up two positions and now ranks 142nd. The leaders of the ranking are still the current world champions, Argentina. The second place is occupied by the French team, and the third place is occupied by Spain. In the Asian ranking, the Japanese team leads, followed by Iran, the Republic of Korea, Australia and Qatar.
