Deputy Chairman for Creative Affairs of “Turkmenfilm”, director Sahysalyh Bayramov presented Turkmen cinema at the X St. Petersburg International Forum of United Cultures.
According to “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”, on September 12 a panel discussion was held on the topic: “Cinematography of the CIS countries. Common past, sovereign present, multipolar future”, in which S. Bayromov took part as a speaker.
The discussion was attended by such prominent representatives of the film industry as Director of the Cinema Fund Fyodor Sosnov, Deputy Director of the State Film Fund of Azerbaijan Ayaz Salayev, General Director of the National Film Studio “Belarusfilm” Yuri Alexey, Chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Kulmendeev, Deputy Director of the National Cinema Center of Armenia Vardan Abovyan.
During the meeting, experts discussed the spiritual aspects of modern cinema and the prospects for deepening cooperation in the field of film production, including increasing joint projects. The initiative to create a Fund to finance joint film projects of the CIS countries was also mentioned.
The Turkmen speaker noted that the country’s cinema is actively functioning and covers a variety of genres, which permits Turkmenistan to present its film products at international film festivals. Every year, new films are created that receive recognition and receive special awards and diplomas, emphasizing the high quality and uniqueness of Turkmen cinema.
This year, passing under the motto “The Fount of Wisdom of Magtymguly Fragi”, has become especially fruitful for Turkmen filmmakers working on a series of documentaries dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the poet and thinker Magtymguly Fragi. In addition, filming of a joint Turkmen-Uzbek feature film about the life of a classic of Turkmen literature is underway.
Most of these creative projects will be shown at the “Gorkut Ata” International Film Festival, which is scheduled for November this year in Turkmenistan.
