At the TIF 2024 investment forum, which was held in Ashgabat on September 10-11, the Turkmen “Denizderyayollary” (Sea and River Routes of Turkmenistan) Agency presented a number of investment projects in the field of maritime transport.

As reported by Turkmenistan: Golden Age, the projects are aimed at developing and modernizing the country's maritime transport infrastructure to increase competitiveness in the international arena.

The first project concerns the construction of universal dry cargo ships, since the need for them arises with the opening of new industrial facilities, such as plants for the production of urea and polypropylene.

At the moment, the national fleet covers 20% of the country's export-import cargo.

The second project is the creation of a special oil and waste collection vessel that will effectively eliminate oil and oil product spills, meeting international environmental standards. It is expected that the monthly profit from its operation will be about 100 thousand US dollars. It is also planned to build new tankers, which are necessary for the transportation of oil and oil products from the ports of Ekerem, Alaja and Turkmenbashy.

No less significant is the project to build Ro-Pax ferries for the transportation of rail and road transport. The existing ferries between Baku and Turkmenbashy have a high occupancy rate, which confirms the high demand. It is planned to expand the route network and increase the fleet, including ferries for the transportation of railway cars.

There is also a need for a new transport and tugboat to service offshore oil platforms. In addition, the Agency's plans include the construction of a dredging vessel that will deepen and widen navigation channels in the Turkmenbashy International Sea Port.

The investment projects of the Turkmenbashy Oil and Gas Development Agency presented at TIF 2024 are aimed at significant development of the maritime transport infrastructure of Turkmenistan. The implementation of these initiatives will not only improve the quality and volume of transportation, but also increase the country's competitiveness in the international arena, the source notes.
