Yesterday, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan held a meeting with experts from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Tamara Kutonova and John Marco Church. This was reported on the website of the Mejlis.
The parties discussed the possibilities of bilateral cooperation, parliamentary work on issues related to environmental safety and future challenges.
During the meeting, the importance of the work carried out in Turkmenistan on the rational use of water resources as the most important condition for the harmonious development of the agro-industrial complex and other industries, environmental protection, and ensuring a comfortable standard of living for the population within the framework of the country’s socio-economic development program was emphasized.
The Importance of Turkmenistan’s accession to a number of international documents on the efficient use of water resources, including the Helsinki Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, as well as the consistent improvement of national legislation aimed at ensuring environmental safety, was also noted.
The parties discussed the importance of the laws of Turkmenistan “On Nature Protection”, “On Drinking Water”, “On Environmental Analysis” adopted by the Mejlis in strengthening the legal, economic and organizational foundations of program activities aimed at ensuring the environmental well-being of the country and regions.
