Using polite words when communicating with artificial intelligence leads to significant financial losses for technology companies. As Nikita Nazarov, technical director of the IT company HFLabs, told aif.ru, Russian organizations lose millions of rubles annually due to the habit of users to use the words “please” and “thank you,” as well as to start and end conversations with neural networks with greetings and farewells.

This problem is global. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman estimated the global losses from excessive user politeness at tens of millions of dollars. Technically, politeness formulas do not contain useful information for algorithms, but their processing requires additional computing resources.

There is an opposing view, however, that polite communication with chatbots can be beneficial, as AI systems are trained on user queries and tend to respond in the same manner in which they receive inquiries.

As a compromise solution, the expert suggests collecting all expressions of gratitude in one message, avoiding repeating them in each line of dialogue with artificial intelligence.
