In Turkmenistan, the first Kazakhstani self-elevating floating drilling rig (SEDR) Satti (owner - KMG DS) will be used at the Cheleken field. It is currently undergoing technical preparation procedures for towing to the destination. This was reported on the website of the KazMunayGas company.
The contract for the provision of drilling services in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea was signed in 2024 between the subsidiaries of KMG Drilling & Services LLP (KMG DS) and Dragon Oil Turkmenistan Limited.
The SEDR Satti is a unique development with advanced technologies for drilling operations in difficult marine conditions. After modification in 2021, its lifting capacity increased from 453 to 680 tons. The offshore rig is capable of drilling wells up to 6 000 meters deep.
In general, this initiative will contribute to the expansion of Kazakhstan's presence in the global oilfield services market and the strengthening of economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, the source notes.
Recall that in October 2024, a branch of the Kazakh company KMG Drilling and Services was opened in Ashgabat for further activities in Turkmenistan related to drilling operations at the Cheleken field.
