The International Space Station (ISS) completed its 150 thousandth orbit around our planet on March 11. This event occurred between 13:32 and 15:05 Moscow time, when the station flew over the island of Sumatra (Indonesia) and then over the Indian Ocean, Mail.ru reports with reference to Roscosmos.

Over the 26.5 years of its existence, starting with the launch of the first module Zarya on November 20, 1998, the ISS has traveled a colossal distance of 6,4 billion kilometers. For comparison, this is 30 times the average distance between Earth and Mars, four times the distance to Saturn, and almost equal to the distance from the Sun to the orbit of Pluto.

Situated at an altitude of more than 400 kilometers above the Earth's surface, the International Space Station makes about 16 complete orbits around the Earth every day.
