The Guinness Book of Records has recorded an achievement — a marriage lasting 84 years and 77 days. This record among currently living couples belongs to Brazilians Manoel Angelim Dino, who turned 105, and his 101-year-old wife Maria de Souza Dino, reports daily.afisha.ru.
Their love story began with a chance meeting in 1936, when young Manoel came to Maria’s hometown for a batch of rapadouras — traditional Brazilian sweets. However, their second meeting in 1940 became fateful, followed by their first date and a quick wedding. The newlyweds settled in a house built by Manoel’s hands and began growing tobacco.
Over the years of their life together, the Dino family has grown significantly: the couple raised 13 children, and now their family includes 55 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. When asked about the secret of such a long marriage, Maria gives a simple answer: “Love.” Despite their venerable age, the couple maintains family traditions. In the evenings, they gather in the living room, where they listen to prayers on the radio and watch broadcasts of masses. Although the Dino couple set a record among currently living spouses, the absolute record for the duration of marriage remains with a Canadian couple – David Jacob and Sarah Davy Hiller, who lived together for 88 years and 349 days until Sarah’s death in 1898.
