The Turkmenistan national hockey team completed its performance at the Asian Winter Games in Harbin, taking 10th place. In the final match of the tournament for 9th place, the team of Ilyas Veliyev and Guvanchmyrat Jepbarov lost to the Kuwait team with a score of 4:8. Dovrangeldy Baidzhaev scored a double for the Turkmen team, and Ahmet Gurbanov and Alexander Vakhovsky scored another goal each.
According to the official website of the Asian Games, four leading players of the Turkmenistan national team – Arslan Geldymyradov, Arslan Nuryev, Begench Dovletmyradov and Novruz Bayhanov – missed the meeting due to disqualification.
Now, eight teams continue to fight for the title of champion of the 2025 Asian Games, the quarterfinal matches of which will take place today, February 11.
In the quarterfinals, Kazakhstan will play Hong Kong, South Korea will meet Kyrgyzstan, China will fight Taiwan, and Japan will host Thailand on the ice arena. The semi-final matches will take place on February 13, with the final and 3rd place match scheduled for February 14.
At the previous Asian Winter Games in Sapporo (Japan), Turkmen hockey players took 11th place among 18 teams, winning small gold medals in the second division.
