The Turkmen side agreed on the transit of its gas through Iran under the SWAP scheme with the Turkish oil and gas company BOTAŞ. This was announced by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during a telephone conversation with the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
“Our countries have been cooperating in the fuel and energy sector for many years, said Chairman Halk Maslahaty and announced the agreement with the BOTAŞ company on the transit of Turkmen natural gas through Iran to the Republic of Türkiye through SWAP,” the message says.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also said that in order to increase cooperation in the field of electricity, Turkmenistan proposed to build a section from the Mary hydroelectric station to the Iranian border under the Mary-Mashhad power transmission line project. As noted, the necessary negotiations have already taken place with the Iranian side and a corresponding document has been signed: it is envisaged that the project will be implemented by Iranian companies.
