Chinese scientists have made a significant breakthrough in wireless communications, achieving the world's first long-distance transmission of high-resolution video using the terahertz range. This achievement is an important step towards the implementation of 6G mobile communications technology, bigasia.ru reports.

The experiment was conducted in the extreme conditions of the Tibetan Plateau, at an altitude of over 4000 meters above sea level. Using an innovative terahertz superconducting device, scientists successfully transmitted a video signal over a distance of over 1,2 kilometers.

Experts emphasize that data transmission in the terahertz range is significantly more efficient than traditional methods using ultra-high frequencies (UHF). However, the current signal transmission power, which is only 10 microwatts (which is a million times less than the power of a regular mobile phone), requires further improvement.

The potential applications of terahertz technology extend far beyond telecommunications, opening up new horizons in astronomical observations and biomedical research.
