An international group of scientists has proposed breeding pythons for meat. Researchers studied two species of snakes—the reticulated python and the dark tiger python—and concluded that such production could be efficient and environmentally friendly. This was reported by “Mir 24” with reference to Scientific Reports.

Pythons turned out to be very easy to care for. They grow quickly even with limited nutrition, consuming little food and producing a lot of meat.

The ratio of food consumed to meat produced in pythons is 1,2, which distinguishes them favorably from other animals: salmon (1,5), poultry (2,8), pork (6,0) and beef (10,0).

Snakes can fast for months without losing body weight, making them ideal for breeding in regions with unstable water supplies and food shortages.

The study's authors believe that breeding pythons in captivity to sell their meat is biologically and economically feasible.

However, for now this is only a theoretical assumption. The taste of python meat has not yet been studied, and the requirements for their breeding are less clear than those of warm-blooded animals.
