National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to take part in the International Forum of Peace and Trust, which will be held on December 12 in Ashgabat. This was reported by the press service of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.
As reported by the diplomatic department, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium Sapar Palvanov conveyed an official invitation to the event during a meeting with the diplomatic adviser to the head of the European Commission Elisabetta Belloni.
As part of the talks, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of relations between Turkmenistan and the European Union. The progressive dynamics of bilateral cooperation was noted.
The ambassador emphasized that the anniversary meeting of the EU and Central Asian foreign ministers in Ashgabat in March, as well as the first European Union - Central Asia summit, became an important milestone in building a sustainable partnership at the highest level and confirmed the new nature of interaction. The Turkmen side emphasized the priority of practical implementation of the agreements reached at the summit.
During the discussion of priority areas of cooperation, Turkmenistan indicated its readiness to develop cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, supply of critical raw materials, as well as education and scientific and technical exchange. The Turkmen side expressed openness to expanding dialogue on key issues of regional and global importance.
The parties confirmed their mutual commitment to the progressive development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU in a wide range of areas - from economic and humanitarian contacts to environmental protection issues.
The International Forum of Peace and Trust will be held at the level of heads of state and heads of international organizations. The event is timed to coincide with the proclamation by the UN General Assembly of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality.
