The Alley of Memory, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, was ceremonially opened on the territory adjacent to the Russian Embassy in Turkmenistan. More than 100 coniferous and deciduous trees were planted within the framework of the event, the press service of the Russian diplomatic mission reported.
Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin reported that the event was held as part of the international environmental initiative "Garden of Memory", the goal of which is to annually plant 27 million seedlings corresponding to the number of Soviet residents who died during the war. Since the launch of the initiative in 2020, at the suggestion of the Russian Federation, over 130 million trees have been planted in 78 countries around the world.
This event complemented a series of events organized by the Russian diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan on the occasion of the Victory anniversary. All of them are aimed at preserving the historical truth about the events of the war years and the decisive contribution of the USSR to the defeat of Nazism, the press service specified.
It is expected that the Alley of Memory will not only become a worthy gift to Ashgabat, but will also serve as a reminder of the connection between generations and the immortal feat of the Soviet people.
