The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the 82nd session of the UN Committee against Torture, held in Geneva on April 23-24.
Participation in the session was an important step towards developing a constructive dialogue between Turkmenistan and international human rights mechanisms, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
In its speech, the delegation of Turkmenistan presented information on the country's efforts to prevent torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Key achievements in the framework of national legislation, judicial practice, as well as initiatives aimed at increasing the legal literacy of law enforcement officers and expanding access to justice were announced.
The Committee members highly appreciated the openness of the Turkmen delegation to dialogue and interaction, and expressed interest in further cooperation.
