The Turkmenistan national team won a total of 28 medals following the results of the international tournament in national wrestling Goresh and belt wrestling Alysh, held in Ashgabat. Turkmen athletes received 12 gold, 10 silver and 6 bronze medals.
On the first day of the competition, the Turkmen athletes won 14 medals in the national wrestling Goresh, and then another 14 awards in the Alysh competition – a national wrestling with a fixed grip on the belt, which has received wide international recognition in recent years.
Currently, the World Alysh Federation (WAF), founded in 2002 with headquarters in Bishkek, includes 36 national federations from different continents.
The tournament, which brought together representatives from 13 countries from Europe and Asia, was held as part of a program of events dedicated to the status of Ashgabat as the "City of New Sports Opportunities of the Commonwealth”, awarded to the Turkmen capital by the decision of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS in May 2024.
