The 2023 Asian champion among youth under 23 Ziyamuhammed Saparov (weight category up to 125 kg) is among the wrestlers who are real contenders for medals at the upcoming continental championship in Jordan. This was stated by the head coach of the Turkmenistan national freestyle wrestling team Yusup Melejayev, the "Neutral Turkmenistan" newspaper reports.
Saparov is also a silver medalist at the 2022 Asian Youth Championship and the "Belt and Road" International Tournament, which took place in the Chinese city of Xi'an last November.
According to Melejayev, Dovlet Orazgylyjov (up to 86 kg) will not participate in the upcoming Asian Wrestling Championship due to an injury. Instead, the country will be represented by Dovletgeldy Myradov, a bronze medalist of the continental youth competition in Bishkek.
The Turkmenistan national freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling team has begun an international training camp in the Dagestani city of Khasavyurt. The team is preparing for the Asian Championship, which will be held from March 24 to 28 in Oman. Eighteen leading athletes from the country have left for Dagestan.
