At the seventh meeting of the seventh convocation of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, held on November 30, a number of legislative acts aimed at the socio-economic development of the country were adopted, included in the agenda of the meeting, and amendments and additions were made to the Law of Turkmenistan "On the Ombudsman".
The amendments to the law involve the opening of two new departments - the Department for the Protection of Women's and Children's Rights and the Department for the Protection of Human Rights in the Private Sector - and the establishment of certain powers.
As reported on the website of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan, the country pays great attention to ensuring the vital, economic, cultural, civil and political rights of women and children, supporting entrepreneurship, and increasing the share of the private sector in the country's economy.
Improving the Law of Turkmenistan "On the Ombudsman" will be an important step towards strengthening the institutional capacity of the Office in the field of human rights protection in Turkmenistan, the source notes.
