Turkmenistan and the EU held the seventh inter-parliamentary meeting in Brussels

The 7th Interparliamentary Meeting of Turkmenistan and the European Union was held yesterday in the European Parliament building in Brussels. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Chairman of the Committee of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan for the Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms Yusupguly Eshayev headed the Turkmen delegation. Ms. Giusi Princi, Chairperson of the EU Delegation for Relations with Central Asia and Mongolia, represented the delegation of the European Parliament.

The delegation of Turkmenistan expressed its openness to dialogue in the field of human rights, the rule of law and social policy, highlighting recent achievements such as the eradication of statelessness. Active cooperation with the EU, OSCE and UN to strengthen the protection of human rights and social guarantees was noted.

The parties discussed the possibilities of establishing new areas of cooperation. They discussed Turkmenistan's efforts to diversify the economy and expand trade and investment ties with the European Union.

Participants noted the successful launch of the coordination platform on transport between Central Asia and the European Union in Ashgabat in October this year during the visit of European Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen to Turkmenistan.

The importance of academic exchanges and interregional cooperation was also noted. The delegation of Turkmenistan confirmed its proposal to hold a meeting of the ministers of education of Central Asian countries and the EU, as well as heads of higher education institutions.
