Armenian statistics experts visit Turkmenistan

UNDP in Turkmenistan, in cooperation with the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan (Turkmenstat), organized a visit of a delegation of Armenian statistical experts to strengthen the national statistical capacity of Turkmenistan, with a special focus on the compilation of financial accounts within the framework of the 2008 System of National Accounts (SNA).

The delegation included Ms. Haykush Titizyan, Head of the Financial Statistics Department of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia; Ms. Anush Davtyan, Head of the External Sector Statistics Department of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia and Ms. Peprone Margaryants, international expert on financial statistics, according to a UNDP press release.

During the visit, these experts held presentations, seminars and round tables with national partners from Turkmenstat, the Central Bank of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan and the Pension Fund of Turkmenistan.

Key discussions covered Armenia’s approach to compiling financial accounts, in particular structuring institutional roles and ensuring the flow and accuracy of sectoral data. Experts also shared methodologies for integrating data from various sources, including monetary statistics, external sector statistics, and non-financial sector financial statistics.

At special training sessions for employees of Turkmenstat and the Central Bank, experts introduced participants to methodologies for developing a system of quaternary records.

During the visit, Peprone Margaryants provided a detailed analysis of current methodologies and data sources that can be used to compile accurate and reliable financial accounts in Turkmenistan.
